Rolls-Royce expands into Shtokman field
Rolls-Royce has won a breakthrough contract in the expanding Arctic exploration and production offshore market. It is to supply mooring equipment for two ice-class drilling rigs to be operated in the Shtokman field, one of the world’s largest natural gas fields, in the Russian sector of the Barents Sea. The contract value is about £10 million.

Shtokman Gas Field To Start Output 2nd Half 2013 - Gazprom
- Natural gas production at the Shtokman field will begin at the second half of 2013 as planned, Yuri Komarov, general director of Sevmorneftegaz, a gas monopoly OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) subsidiary, which has a licence to develop the field in Russia's Arctic, said.

Floating removable platforms for Shtokman field
The Shtokman Development Company, a consortium of Gazprom, Total and StatoilHydro, intends to extract the 3,7 trillion cubic meters of Shtokman gas with the help of floating platforms, which can be moved around in emergency situations.

The platforms will be built in a way, which enables the consortium partners to move the platforms in case of approaching icebergs, StatoilHydro’s Lars Hvalbye said at the Kirkenes Conference in Norway today.

Norsk Hydro Still Seeks Participation in Shtokman
The Financial Times has reported Norwegian offshore oil company Norsk Hydro expressed interest in participating in Gazprom’s Shtokman project Tuesday saying “there’s still a chance for Norsk Hydro to get involved in Shtokman in spite of Gazprom’s choice of French oil major Total as its main development partner.” This statement comes amidst Russian oil giant’s announcement of changes to the investment plan for 2007, including cutting Shtokman’s budget.
